- Introduction -

Many owners of properties with historic significance or distinctive environmental qualities seek to preserve these assets and also to maximize the financial benefits of maintaining them in active use. Many owners consider donating a conservation easement to a charitable organization as a part of an overall incentive-related financing strategy. In so doing, they wish to assure that a reliable, long-term arrangement can be made in which consistent and objective criteria are used to monitor the easement.

In recognition of this need, the American Easement Foundation receives and monitors easements for the preservation and conservation of properties with cultural, environmental and historic significance throughout the United States.
Formed in 2001, the American Easement Foundation encourages the preservation of historic structures and open spaces, in perpetuity, through the creative application of facade and scenic easements.
